Inspiration

The Rolodex was once the heart of every business: simple, physical, always at hand. It died with the rise of bloated CRMs. As someone running an export trade business, I missed that simplicity, so for Kiroween I'm resurrecting it with modern AI.

What it does

Ghost Ledger brings the classic Rolodex card file back to life as an AI-powered contact manager. Flip through cards just like the old days, but ask in plain language ("German buyers of LED downlights") and semantic vector search finds them instantly. After each conversation, an AI agent writes a short summary onto the card, so every contact remembers its own history. A spooky, candle-lit UI gives the dead tech a haunted second life.

How we built it

Built spec-first in Kiro: requirements, design and tasks were generated as specs, then implemented with Kiro agent hooks and steering files to keep the AI consistent. The app uses embeddings for vector search, an LLM for summaries and tool calling, and a lightweight web front end.

Challenges we ran into

Keeping search fast and private by storing the vector index locally, and making the AI reliably return a clear answer instead of raw tool output.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Turning a forgotten 1950s tool into something genuinely useful for a modern small business.

What we learned

How spec-driven development and agent hooks make AI-assisted coding far more structured and predictable.

What's next

Card import from email and spreadsheets, multilingual contacts and a mobile version.
