Spooky season!

What it does

This modular, re-skinnable and adaptable template is styled for Halloween, but could be made for any look. The game is a simple Blue and Red free-for-all game (that could easily be adapted to 2v2 Blue v Red) where there is a single goal area, a blue ball and a red ball, with scripted defenders that try to stop a player from taking either ball to the goal to score. There are red and blue collectibles that appear while a player has a ball, and 4 leaderboards tracking it all, along with a leaderboard for the NPCs, tallying how many players they've caught. A 1-minute game loop in all. This remix world is full of useful Plug-n-Play scripts useable by new creators with little-to-no coding experience.

How we built it

The terrain was made using the Gen AI Environment generator, with heavy editing to bring down vert count (remixing creators can further edit or make their own terrain entirely, whether by AI or custom import). The skybox was made with the Gen AI as well. The gravestone models, and graveyard walls and gates, are from the Meta Horizon public asset library. The ghosts, crypts, church, torch-posts, and gazebo were all created with the Gen AI 3D model maker. (All mesh models are easily swappable for a different aesthetic). The game guide panels, game-entry panel, player-catch board, ghost faces, and in-build documentation panels were all custom imported. Thunder sounds, candy-collect sound, and fire sound are menu assets, all other sound fx and music is custom imported and original (all sounds can easily be swapped out to match a new look with very little re-wiring). All typescripting was made using the Gen AI Assistant.

Challenges we ran into

Time constraints. There were several additional game mechanics I wanted to put in, but simply ran out of time. The game, in total, was put together in 3 weeks.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The whole game. I love Halloween, I worked long days for 3 weeks, and I'm proud of how this little game turned out.

What we learned

I learned a lot about dealing with the new terrain generator; I've learned a lot about using the assistant to generate code.

What's next for Ghost Chasers (remix)

If there were to be more, it would be getting in those mechanics that I didn't have the time for. I made 4 Halloween style wearables (a candy skull mask, a jack-o-lantern head, a black cat mask, and a witch hat) that were intended to be unlockable with specific scores earned on each leaderboard. They were in-game and wearable, but I ran out of time to finish it, so they were removed. I intended to add, in the game arena, a timer with scoreboard and start button so that Red and Blue could play as 2 v 2 pvp, but just couldn't get to it. There was initially a gathering mechanic to keep fires lit, but it was scrapped for time, and to keep the game uncomplicated for new creators.
