We were excited about making a shared experience in AR and wanted to take advantage of the sync framework. We thought that the traditional game of Musical Chairs would be a good experience that incorporated these features, and encourage people to move around in a shared space.

What it does

Two players share a space together. A 30 second timer starts, and a ghost appears in a random location in the space. The first person to ‘catch’ the ghost by reaching their hand out gets a point, and the ghost then spawns to a new location. The player with the most points after the timer completes, wins. 

Challenges we ran into

It took us a while to get the Connected Spectacles template up and running where we could preview the lens on two pairs of Specs at the same time. This meant that we had some scope issues and had to delay the idea of adding a music event and custom assets until we had worked out how to get both players to interact with an object in the shared space. We then explored a much more simple game inspired by 'Hot Potato' and this Korok puzzle and developed our concept from there.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud to have created a multiplayer experience, even at a reduced scope from our original idea. Proud to have achieved this with only one member of our team having programming skills too! When facing necessary technical compromises, we were able to adapt our initial idea without losing the original intent.

What's next for Ghost Catch

Ghost catch is a very versatile structure - more players can be added and different levels of difficulty will be introduced. Mapping walls, floors and furniture with occlusion would also give the ghost the ability to hide and adding spatial audio to the ghost and music for atmosphere.
