GDG Judging Reimagined: An AI Assistant for Smoother Experiences

Inspiration The persistent challenges faced by GDG juries resonated deeply with our own experiences. Witnessing recurring issues like skill mismatch, limited evaluation time, and opaque judging criteria fueled our desire to innovate and find solutions.

What it Does Our AI assistant streamlines the judging process by:

Challenge Recommendation: Analyzes participant profiles and past performance (using machine learning) to suggest suitable challenges based on skillsets, eliminating the skill mismatch issue. Submission Analysis & Feedback: Analyzes submissions against predefined criteria (set by organizers) and provides structured feedback to judges, reducing evaluation time and promoting consistency while allowing for individual interpretation. Public Comments Integration: Incorporates moderated public comments to offer broader perspectives during evaluation.

How We Built It Developing the assistant involved:

Understanding: Conducting interviews and surveys with judges and participants to pinpoint key frustrations and needs. Research: Exploring existing AI-powered judging solutions to learn from their strengths and weaknesses. Development: Using machine learning models and data analysis techniques to create the core functionalities. Integration: Ensuring seamless integration with existing GDG platforms and data sources.

Challenges We Ran Into to Balancing Automation and Subjectivity: Striking the right balance between AI-driven efficiency and human judgment was crucial. We ensured the assistant remains a tool to empower judges, not replace them. Data Security and Privacy: Protecting participant data and guaranteeing fair, unbiased analysis were top priorities, guiding our design and implementation choices.
