Inspiration

Have you ever found yourself not being able to properly plan for vacations or trips because you're just too BUSY? If you DO want to make a plan, you have to go online and look at DOZENS of travel websites to plan out the PERFECT vacation for you and your family. Well, look no further as Getaway Guru is here to help!

What it does

Getaway Guru is an AI-powered website that will automatically generate an itinerary for anyone that answers only FIVE questions. Instead of taking hours to plan out a vacation, one can simply answer 5 questions within seconds and get an amazing itinerary for their vacation.

How we built it

In the back end, we utilized OpenAI's language model, gpt-3, in order to streamline itinerary generation. The user simply enters information about their travel plans, such as their destination, date/time of their arrival, length of their stay, and their interests. The application then formats this information into a prompt for gpt-3 and sends it as a query to the openAI API, and prints the response as a sample itinerary for the user.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges we faced was connecting the front end to the back end, as none of us had experience doing this. However, through research, we were able to come up with a viable solution for our application. A challenge that we had trouble with was understanding how we could incorporate openAI. None of us were experienced in using the API, and we struggled to figure out how to implement it. However, we overcame this challenge by reading through openAI's API documentation, and through trial and error in implementing it in our application, and managed to discover just how powerful this new technology really is.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud to have created our first AI-powered website using the openAI API. We are also very proud of successfully submitting our very first project to a Hackathon. Working on this project helped us discover the true power of the impressive technology that exists today. We had a great experience at UGAHacks8 this year!

What's next for Getaway Guru

One thing to look out for with Getaway Guru is a login and registration feature! Registered users will have access to their previous itineraries, and will be able to edit, update, and share these itineraries. They will also be able to track and be reminded about various reservations that they make through gpt-3's suggestions, leading up to and during their trip.
