Inspiration
As a college student, one of the most exciting thing is to go out and eat after a 3-hour lecture. However, often we find ourselves and our friends face the difficulty of choosing where to eat. None of us have an idea and there are so many choices around us! Have you ever thought, that maybe we could just randomly choose one for the day and call it an adventure?
What it does
After getting user location, information of a large number of nearby restaurants will be gathered and the user will be provided with information of a random one, so that they won't stand in winter for 30 minutes trying to decide where to eat!
How we built it
The main part is built with python with the help of Google API. Several libraries are used, including pandas, requests, json, time and random.
Challenges we ran into
None of our group members is super familiar with front-end development. We ran into several debates toward with framework to use as well. Unfortunately at the end we were unable to develop a working front-end app.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
First time correct usages of API.
What we learned
We gained a lot of experience using API since none of us has used any API before. We also learned a lot about data analysis when developing our datasets.
What's next for Get Your Restaurant
We would all learn some front-end development knowledge after the hackathon and aim to build an actual website for it. We are sure that this will bring positive impacts to students with choice phobia disorder!
