Inspiration

Technological development brought us new smart, connected devices with various sensors and actors. This opens up a magnificent amount of new opportunities! Why not simplify everyday life by letting technology anticipate a person's actions - even if it's just controlling the room lighting?

What it does

This Android apps currently consists of two components. First, an alarm clock with a dawn simulator. Second, a room lighting control depending on user's position (standing/walking: bright white, sitting/lying: dimmed red). Both components make use of an Internet-controllable smart RGB lighting system.

How I built it

Movesense's sensor was used to measure acceleration.

The Android app acts as a control hub to detect significant movement (standing up, sitting down) and control RGB lighting.

Challenges I ran into

  • Noisy, analogue sensor data
  • Unclear APIs/documentation

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • MVP finished

What I learned

  • Interact with a smart sensor using BLE
  • Deal with aforementioned challenges

What's next for Get Up, Lights Up!

  • Indoor localization support
  • Detect more movement data, e.g., walking speed, and control lights accordingly
