Inspiration
I just really wanted to take a break and make a game.
What it does
Provides video entertainment. Also consumes electricity and CPU cycles at an alarming rate
How we built it
Game was written in pygame and pixel art was made in GraphicsGale.
Challenges we ran into
- Designing robust and extensible systems is hard
- pygame is pretty bare bones so I had to write a lot of stuff from scratch (physics, camera, sprite tiling)
- The level maps are encoded in plaintext where each character represents a tile. I thought having the alphabet and numbers (62 values) would be enough for me. It was not.
- Time is unforgiving. I wanted to add more endings :(
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- It's done (kinda)
What we learned
- Python slow
What's next for Get to Work
- Add more endings
- Add more levels
- Port it to Godot
