Inspiration
We wanted to improve general public health while wanting to make a game where the player can fight monsters and level up so we thought to combine the two ideas into one game.
What it does
Get Fit or Get Hit is a mobile android game where the player fights numerous monsters through completing quests where they must perform certain exercises in order to deal damage to the monster.
How we built it
We created our app using Android Studio, coded it in Kotlin, and collaborated with each other using GitHub.
Challenges we ran into
Our main problems arose from our inexperience with Android Studio and the Kotlin language as we were using it for the first time. Naturally we ran into many technical issues that took considerable time to resolve which ate into our development time. These issues combined with the time it took to learn both Android Studio and Kotlin gave us serious time pressure which forced us to work as efficiently as possible.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of the fact that we were able to pick up and use Android Studio and create a mobile app with minimal experience. We were resourceful in learning the tools we were using and feel that we made considerable progress given our circumstances.
What we learned
As this was our first Hackathon we got to learn the process of the event as well as how to collaborate with our peers in order to create software in a much shorter time than we were used to. We were also able to learn new tools and languages such as Android Studio and Kotlin and learned more about mobile app development in general.
What's next for Get Fit or Get Hit
There are still many features that we have planned for this app including an item system, a store, new exercises, new monsters, and more!
