Inspiration

This project was inspired by the desire to bring friends and family together through a platform that fosters community connections, enabling users to buy and sell within their local network. By empowering home cooks and food enthusiasts, we aimed to create a space that celebrates local talent and culinary passion.

What it does

Get Cook'd is an innovative app that connects users with local home cooks, allowing them to purchase homemade dishes and baked goods without the need for a storefront. It simplifies the process of finding and supporting smaller home-based culinary creators, fostering a sense of community and accessibility.

How we built it

The app was developed using Java for the backend to handle data and functionality, while Figma was utilized for designing the user interface and prototyping the frontend. We also incorporated generative AI features to enhance the app’s user experience and functionality.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was debugging the program while learning how to effectively integrate generative AI into the application. Additionally, with a small team of two, including one first-time hacker, we had to manage limited resources and juggle steep learning curves.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of successfully building this project as a small team and navigating the complexities of working with unfamiliar tools and technologies. Despite limited Figma experience, we designed a functional prototype and learned valuable skills for future projects. Supporting a first-time hacker to contribute meaningfully to the project was another highlight.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained insights into structuring project workflows under time constraints, effectively utilizing tools like Figma and generative AI, and adapting to new software programs. It taught us the importance of collaboration and adaptability in the face of challenges.

What's next for Get Cook'd

Moving forward, we aim to connect the backend to the frontend for a seamless user experience. We’ll also focus on refining the app’s design in Figma to create smoother transitions and more intuitive navigation, ensuring a polished and cohesive platform for all users.
