GERA – AI Memory Companion for Elders

Inspiration GERA was inspired by the challenges elders and people with Alzheimer’s face when remembering loved ones, important events, and daily routines. We wanted to create a friendly AI companion that helps preserve precious memories and makes everyday life easier.

What It Does GERA is an AI-powered voice companion that allows users to share personal information through natural conversations. It helps them recall memories, remember people and events, and receive personalized reminders. Users and caregivers can also manually add important information for future reference.

How We Built It We designed GERA as a voice-first AI chatbot focused on memory assistance. The project combines conversational AI, memory storage and retrieval, and reminder functionality to provide a personalized experience. We aim to support multiple languages, including Tamil, English, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Challenges We Faced One major challenge was designing a system that can store important information and retrieve the correct memories when needed. We also considered making conversations simple, supporting different languages, protecting personal information, and ensuring reminders are created only from explicitly provided information.

What We Learned Through GERA, we explored how AI can be used for meaningful social impact. We learned about conversational AI, memory management, personalized assistance, and the importance of building technology that is accessible and easy to use.

Future Scope We plan to improve voice recognition, expand multilingual support, add caregiver features, and create personalized memory videos from meaningful past events.
