Poetic Ecosystem
Poetic Ecosystem is an AR application where users can input words and generate creatures with unique poems integrated into their surroundings. Whether it is something you’ve been pondering, feelings of the moment, or just a random piece of mind, you will get to help build this ecosystem of sentiments by inputting your thoughts.
As users open the application, they will get a prompt asking them to stop what they are busy doing and conjure a thought to write down. A poetic creature will appear, indicating that they have successfully contributed to the ecosystem. When users tap on the creature, a poem based on their inputted words will display.
Poetic Ecosystem invites the audience to acknowledge the role we play as humans as part of a complex ecosystem that goes beyond the physical environment; to appreciate the spiritual and sentimental field that interconnects all humans while we communicate across many scales of time and space.
How we built it
The application was built in Unity combining the Google ARCore extensions Geospatial API and GPT3 API. 3D characters were built and animated in Blender, then imported into Unity. We also designed a custom shader for the poem texture on 3D characters.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges we faced is Integrating GPT3 to make it work seamlessly with GeoSpatial. We have experimented with different prompts and UI, aiming for the best experience that fits our narrative. Besides that, designing 3D elements without actual reference for the location, scale, lighting etc. is definitely another challenge we encountered, where we had to readjust through numerous testings.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of how we were able to combine the two very advanced technologies into the project. Even more so, make them serve a palpable function to tell a story, and speak with our audience.
What we learned
We learnt how to implement Geospatial with different APIs in Unity, building an application that tells a story and serves a purpose of expanding our realities. We think there are huge opportunities and possibilities for us to further implement Geospatial and AI into future projects.
What's next for Poetic Ecosystem
We aim to expand the ecosystem into a multi-user, multi-location application. So after one user generates a poem, they will be able to see the poetic creatures that others made into the ecosystem. It will make the application more collaborative, fitting into our concept of building a collective spiritual network.
