Inspiration

Our journey commenced with recognising the difficulties in acquiring geopolitical news that influences global markets. We wanted to create a tool that not only simplifies this process but also provides actionable insights.

What it does

GeoSense illuminates the global geopolitical landscape by analysing news sentiments and presenting them on an intuitive, colour coded world map. Green signifies positive sentiment, while red indicates negative, offering users an immediate understanding of a country's current geopolitical climate. As well as key insights to why a specific country has received a specific GSI (Geopolitical Sentiment Index)

How we built it

Leveraging the power of OpenAI's API, we developed a backend that meticulously parses through Bloomberg's news articles. This engine extracts sentiment and translates it into a visual format on the world map, making qualitative data into a visually quantifiable format on a global map.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest hurdles was refining the backend to accurately interpret the language of geopolitical news and the vast amount of articles. Ensuring real-time updates without compromising accuracy or speed also posed a significant challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're particularly proud of creating a user-friendly interface that presents geopolitical sentiment analysis. The seamless integration of sophisticated AI technology with a clear, visual representation of data stands as a testament to our team's innovation and hard work.

What we learned

This project deepened our understanding of natural language processing and its application in interpreting global news sentiments. We also gained valuable insights into designing intuitive user interfaces that cater to professional needs.

What's next for GeoSense

Moving forward, GeoSense aims to develop an NLP model, inspired by OpenAI's API and CrudeBERT, tailored specifically for geopolitical sentiment analysis. We plan to enhance our data collection through advanced web scraping from key sources, broadening our focus to include various commodities. This strategic expansion is designed to refine GeoSense's insights and utility, making it an essential tool for a global audience in navigating the complex interplay of geopolitics and markets.
