Inspiration
As four guys who love video games, we really wanted to make one. George Twisty Ruins The World was an idea that was come up with on a whim to help teach the difference between sustainability and industrialization.
What it does
The game begins with you repairing old broken down buildings with guidance from the town's vice mayor and only current resident. After learning the basic gameplay loop of gathering resources, upgrading buildings, and trading resources for money, the player is on their own to try to get their sustainability to the max.
How we built it
We built the game using Unity, with C# as the back end of the program. All our sprites, textures, and tiles were made by us using Piskel.
Challenges we ran into
We faced many challenges, including a metric ton of merge conflicts that ended in missing code. We also had some issues with the world map, and getting the buildings to place properly. In the end, the game does not completely work.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud of all the progress we made, as a team thrown together very last minute we all worked incredibly well together to make something all 4 of us are proud of. The integration of the world map and the sprites, as well as all the different buildings, resources, and upgrade trees were completely new to all of us, and we think we did a pretty good job at learning it.
What we learned
We all learned a variety of different skills from this project. While some of us have used Unity before, this project was a first for others, and we all learned new aspects of Unity that we've never touched before.
What's next for George Twisty Ruins The World
We have already made plans to meet up and finish George Twisty Ruins The World, followed by posting the project on itch.io for people to play. After that we plan on maintaining the game, fixing bugs and providing the occasional update.
