Inspiration:
We thought to create something which is new and innovative and came up with this idea as students are searching for internships at this point of time.
What it does:
The main goal of the app was for the app to use geolocation to extract and analyze and notify the user of any new job opportunities and/or job interviews, as well as internships by using geo tracking on the user wherever s/he goes.
Function:
The app uses geolocation and google maps API to track the user, and use geofencing which will trigger any nearby broadcasts to be captured by the app about information of jobs, interships, and interviews.
Scenario:
A person decides to go to his/her favorite technology store, which lets say Best Buy. While the shopper is choosing from various products, he receives a notification from the GeoJob app that the company Best Buy is looking for new employees. The shopper is able to see the annual salary payment, the working hours, and even receives benefits that all company employees receive from the company.
How I built it:
Android Studio and Firebase.
Challenges I ran into:
We are beginners so we really didn't know where to start in the first place. Somehow, we saw video tutorials of android studio and Firebase and managed to implement some part of the project, we are going to use Google maps app, but we just didn't know how to implement it, the code wouldn't run.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of:
This is my first hackathon. I guess I pulled it off good. There was a lot of learning and also learning from my teammates. Since they are from different universities, it was diverse learning, which is a good thing.
What I learned:
Basics of android studio and firebase.
What's next for GeoJob App:
GeoJob could go international. It'll work all over the world.
