Inspiration
Inspired by the TreeHacks geospatial challenge
What it does
Given a location, users should be able to see distribution of socioeconomic levels, separable by gender, and by region (the region granularity can be set individually). Though, as you can see in the website, the functionalities are not perfect...
How I built it
HTML/JS/CSS stack with MapMyIndia API.
Challenges I ran into
Robustness of APIs; of the two map APIs mentioned in the TreeHacks documentation, I found MapMyIndia to be the easiest to set up, however the documentation was lacking. Meanwhile, Google Earth Engine was confusing to set up (and most tutorials seemed to revolve around the built in web editor, which I did not want to use for this project). A lot of time was spent on becoming acclimated with both APIs, and then switching back and forth before finally settling with this one.
What's next for geo-vis
As MapMyIndia comes out with more features, we will be able to incorporate those into the app! Additionally, it would be cool to pull additional local/geographical information and see if we can visualize those on the same map.
