About the Project
The Inspiration
Genurise was inspired by a simple question: What if technology could help children build healthier habits instead of simply restricting their screen time?
Children today interact with digital devices from an early age. We wanted to create an approach that does not treat the phone as the enemy, but uses AI as a positive companion that encourages children to move, learn, take healthy breaks, practice good routines, and spend more time in the real world.
Our vision is simple: technology should help children grow beyond the screen.
What We Built
Genurise is an AI-powered habit coach designed to connect children, parents, and intelligent technology.
The platform combines personalized habits, missions, rewards, progress tracking, AI conversations, psychology-informed guidance, and parent involvement. Children can receive simple activities such as movement, hydration, breathing, learning, mindfulness, and screen-break challenges.
GENI, our AI companion, provides friendly guidance and encouragement while the system adapts the experience around the child's progress and habits.
Parents remain an important part of the experience. Genurise is designed to help parents guide healthy routines without relying only on restrictive screen-time controls.
Child Privacy and Safety
Because Genurise is designed for children, privacy and safety are fundamental to the product design.
We follow a privacy-first approach: collect only information that is necessary for the experience, avoid unnecessary personal data, keep children and parents within appropriate roles, and design the product around responsible use of AI.
Genurise is not designed to exploit children's attention or maximize screen engagement. Instead, the goal is to encourage healthier behavior and help children spend meaningful time away from the screen.
We also recognize that AI systems used around children require additional care. Our approach emphasizes age-appropriate interactions, parental involvement, responsible data handling, and continuous improvement of safety controls.
How We Built It
We developed Genurise as an Android-focused application using modern mobile technologies and Google's AI ecosystem.
The project includes modular components for:
- AI-powered GENI conversations
- Habit management
- Personalized missions
- Psychology-informed guidance
- XP, rewards, and streaks
- Child progress tracking
- Parent interaction
- Local data persistence
- Cloud synchronization
- AI-powered decision and recommendation workflows
Gemini provides the intelligence layer for natural-language interaction and personalized guidance, while application logic manages habits, missions, rewards, and user progress.
What We Learned
One of our biggest lessons was that building an AI product is much more than connecting an AI model to an application.
The real challenge is creating a meaningful behavioral loop:
Understand → Encourage → Act → Reflect → Reward → Build a Habit
We learned that AI should not simply generate conversations. It should have a meaningful purpose inside the product and help users achieve a real-world outcome.
We also learned that products designed for children require a stronger focus on simplicity, safety, privacy, parental involvement, and responsible AI than ordinary consumer applications.
The Challenges
Building Genurise required solving challenges across AI integration, mobile development, personalization, data synchronization, user experience, and reliability.
We experimented with multiple approaches and prototypes before arriving at the current architecture. Integrating AI into a real application also introduced challenges involving model compatibility, API limitations, application performance, and creating predictable behavior around AI-generated responses.
Another major challenge was balancing a fun experience for children with meaningful parental control and responsible technology use.
Our Vision
Genurise is built around a different philosophy of digital wellbeing.
Instead of asking:
“How do we stop children from using screens?”
we ask:
“How can technology help children build a better life beyond the screen?”
Our long-term vision is an AI-native platform that helps children develop healthy habits, supports parents with intelligent guidance, and transforms everyday digital interactions into opportunities for real-world growth.
