Inspiration

Our journey began with the realization that the increasing popularity of crowdfunding platforms also brought with it a surge in fraudulent activities. We were inspired to create Genuify after witnessing numerous stories of generous donors being deceived and genuine causes suffering. Our goal was to restore faith in online generosity by ensuring authenticity and trust.

What it does

Genuify revolutionizes the verification process for online activities by ensuring authenticity and safety across multiple platforms. Focusing on crowdfunding, Genuify verifies campaign legitimacy through a detailed three-step verification model:

User Input Collection: Fundraisers submit comprehensive details about the individual in need, including medical and physical conditions.
Activity Instruction Generation: Leveraging a sophisticated AI algorithm, Genuify assesses the submitted information to generate customised, dignity-preserving tasks that the subject can perform without discomfort. These tasks vary based on the individual's physical capabilities, from simple movements for mobile patients to subtle gestures for those with severe limitations.
Video Submission and Analysis: The fundraiser captures the subject performing the designated tasks and uploads the video. Our platform then analyzes the video to ensure the actions align with the prescribed activities, confirming the authenticity of the campaign.

Beyond crowdfunding, Genuify could extend its verification solutions to secure ID checks, remote exam monitoring, and age verification, making it a versatile tool for enhancing security and trust in various digital interactions.

How we built it

We built the application using TypeScript, Next.js, and TailwindCSS for a responsive web design, paired with the Google Gemini API from VertexAI. This combination allows for dynamic user interaction and real-time verification processes, ensuring a user-friendly and efficient platform.

Challenges we ran into

Our primary challenge was to ensure the quality of the prompts we generated. It was crucial that these prompts only created dignity-preserving tasks, tailored specifically to each user's capabilities and context. This required careful prompt engineering and testing to maintain both effectiveness in fraud prevention and respect for user privacy and dignity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We've always contemplated addressing online scams but struggled to find the time. The urgency of the hackathon propelled us to dedicate our free weekends to develop our solution, despite only having a 10-day window before the final submission. Our commitment paid off, and we're proud to have created a tool that promises restore trust in giving. With our solution, the creation of fraudulent crowdfunding sites, especially those targeting medical expenses, will hopefully become obsolete.

What we learned

This project has been a powerful learning experience in several ways. We've gained a deep understanding of Google Gemini AI's capabilities and the critical importance of teamwork. Effective division of labor and prioritizing tasks proved crucial in our development process, allowing us to work efficiently and cohesively as a team.

As Genuify continues to demonstrate its effectiveness, we are planning to transform the platform into a versatile API that can be seamlessly integrated across various digital environments. This evolution will allow Genuify to serve a wider range of applications, including secure ID checks and comprehensive security audits. We aim to:
