Inspiration
I have the habit of note taking for everything I do. I use obsidian and the number of notes can easily pile up and It became like I will never reread the notes. So most of the informations will be lost. And I came across the research that test after reading and test after frequent breaks are crucial for memory retention.
So what I thought is why not use the AI to create quiz from my notes so that I can take quiz for memory retention. In this way I don't need to read the whole notes again to just to verify I remember those are not.
What it does
what this app does is it can extract questions from your notes or topic and create quiz based on that. You can take up the quiz and in the result you can download the whole quiz questions or selected questions in certain format (txt/md) so that you can take the quiz afterwards.
How we built it
Used Typescript and React for front end. Used Amazon Bedrock and lambda function to handle request from client to foundation models. Amazon Nova Lite is used so far. Obsidian plugin that do the same inside obsidian
Challenges we ran into
I'm new to backend development, so getting the file input from client in lambda and process it to foundation model itself a bit challenging. Since we get number of question need to be generated was given by the user and the maxtoken per request can limit this feature.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Using a good format and giving the user questions in certain way that they can reuse and also store them offline.
What we learned
I never worked in a standalone project and it was a greater learning. Learned more about Bedrock SDK, Amazon Amplify, IAM, gateway. Learned more about different models and it's usage. Learner more in react and its hooks.
What's next for GenQuiz
Planning to add competitive exams question open to everyone inside web Applicationand new quiz pattern to increase memory retention inside Obsidian plugin . And yeah! that's it.
