I am a self taught developer and an engineering student. When I create personal projects it becomes very hard to choose the right colors and palettes. I just have to go through different websites to choose the right colors. This inspired me to develop a platform which does all this fast and easy without much knowledge of color palettes or designing.

GenPalette is a tool which generates palettes using AI according to my preferred theme and I can choose out of different colors and shades and see how they go together at real time. I can choose from multiple AI generated palettes or just create one of my own and save my favourite palettes and colors in the dashboard for future references.

I used Next.js for the overall frontend and backend of the platform and Redux for the state management of the palettes across different pages of the website. It uses Gemini AI API to fetch the color palette for the desired theme.

It was hard to get the overall flow of the website and how to prompt should be written such that it generates a good mix of colors which can be used for either graphic designing or web development so the prompts are written such that it generates a mix of palettes for mostly all the designing needs out there.

It generates palettes and lets users save favourite colors and palettes for future reference and been used by more than 10 of my friends to help them design their website without going through the hustle of trying to be a designer to choose colors on their own which just feels like an achievement that it is of use to other people.

I learned a lot about colors and designing and prompt engineering as well while building GenPalette and a lot of fundamentals of how a real product looks like which can be used by a lot of people.

I believe many more features can be shipped such as more mock website designs for the visualizer, AI suggestions on if the color palette suits the desired domain or not, exporting the colors in many different formats, pick out palettes from images and much more. Just excited to ship out ore features for it.
