Inspiration

EmpowerFirst was inspired by the need to provide comprehensive support to first-generation, low-income students who face multiple challenges in managing their finances, navigating career pathways, and maintaining mental health. Recognizing that these students often lack access to tailored resources and guidance, we aimed to create a unified platform to address their diverse needs.

What it does

EmpowerFirst offers a streamlined solution with three key features:

Financial Planning: Provides interactive budgeting tools and a scholarship finder to help students manage their finances and discover funding opportunities. Career Development: Delivers personalized career recommendations, a resume builder, and job listings to assist students in their career journey. Mental Health Support: Offers access to virtual counseling services and stress management techniques to promote overall well-being.

How we built it

We utilized a no-code platform, Glide, to rapidly develop the app interface and integrate it with Google Sheets for data management. For additional backend functionality, Firebase was used to handle user authentication and data storage.

Challenges we ran into

Integration Complexity: Connecting various components like the chatbot, Firebase, and Glide proved challenging and required careful coordination. Data Management: Ensuring seamless data flow between Google Sheets and Glide, and managing real-time updates was complex. User Engagement: Designing an intuitive and engaging user experience to ensure that students actively utilize all features was a key challenge.
