Inspiration

Math is one of the subjects students struggle with the most. Many existing platforms rely on fixed question banks, meaning students eventually memorize answers instead of truly understanding concepts. As a student myself, I've experienced how frustrating it can be to run out of meaningful practice or receive explanations that don't match the way I learn.

I wanted to build a platform where every student could receive unlimited, personalized math practice with clear explanations generated in real time. My goal was simple: make learning math engaging, adaptive, and accessible so students build confidence through understanding rather than memorization.

What it does

GeniusMath AI is an AI-powered personalized math learning platform that generates fresh practice questions on demand.

Students can:

  • Choose a math subject, including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, and more.
  • Select a difficulty level.
  • Choose how many questions to generate.
  • Practice in School or Competition mode.
  • Receive detailed explanations for every correct and incorrect answer.
  • View their score and review mistakes to strengthen weak areas.

Unlike traditional worksheets, every practice session is unique, giving students virtually unlimited opportunities to learn.

How we built it

GeniusMath AI was built as a native iOS application using SwiftUI and Xcode.

The app uses AI to dynamically generate original math questions and explanations in real time based on each student's selected settings. We focused heavily on creating a modern, intuitive user experience with smooth animations, responsive navigation, and a clean interface that keeps students focused on learning.

One of the biggest challenges was ensuring the AI consistently generated mathematically accurate and appropriately difficult questions across multiple subjects.

Another challenge was balancing response speed with quality. We optimized prompts and application flow to minimize waiting while still providing detailed explanations.

Designing an interface that remained simple for beginners while still offering enough customization for advanced learners also required several iterations.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned that building an educational AI product requires much more than simply connecting to a language model.

We discovered the importance of prompt engineering, user experience design, handling AI edge cases, validating mathematical correctness, and designing interfaces that make learning feel enjoyable rather than overwhelming.

We also gained valuable experience integrating AI into a real-world mobile application.

What's next for GeniusMath AI

Our vision is to turn GeniusMath AI into a complete AI learning companion.

Future plans include:

  • Adaptive learning paths that automatically adjust difficulty.
  • Personalized study plans based on student performance.
  • Progress tracking and analytics.
  • Teacher and classroom dashboards.
  • Support for SAT, ACT, AMC, Math Olympiad, AP Calculus, and other standardized exams.
  • Image-based problem solving using the camera.
  • Voice tutoring for interactive learning.
  • Cross-platform support for iPad, Android, and the web.
  • Multi-language support to make personalized math education accessible worldwide.
