Inspiration

The inspiration behind Geneva came from recognizing the unique challenges students face in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Balancing academics, social life, and personal well-being can be overwhelming, often leading to stress and neglect of self-care. Geneva was created to provide students with an accessible, all-in-one tool to support their mental and physical health through a variety of interactive and engaging features.

What it does

Geneva is a comprehensive self-care app designed specifically for students. It offers:

  • News Articles: Curated content focused on health, wellness, and student life.
  • Chatbot: An AI-powered assistant that helps evaluate symptoms, provides recommendations for products, and offers support on various health-related topics.
  • Activities: A range of activities including memory games, breathing exercises, meditation sessions, and drawing prompts to help students relax and unwind.
  • Exercise Planner: A customizable planner to help users schedule and track their physical activities.
  • Journaling System: A digital space for students to express their thoughts, set goals, and reflect on their day-to-day experiences.

How we built it

Geneva was built using Flutter and Dart, providing a smooth and responsive cross-platform experience. Firebase was integrated for backend support, managing user authentication, real-time database, and cloud storage. Several APIs were utilized to fetch news articles, provide chatbot functionalities, and manage the journaling and exercise planning features. The app was designed with a user-friendly interface, ensuring ease of use while maintaining a visually appealing aesthetic.

Challenges we ran into

One of the main challenges was integrating the various features into a seamless and cohesive experience. Balancing functionality with performance, especially when using multiple APIs and ensuring real-time responsiveness, was difficult. We also faced challenges in optimizing the chatbot to provide accurate and helpful responses, as well as creating a user interface that was both engaging and intuitive.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of successfully creating an app that offers a comprehensive suite of tools for student self-care. The integration of multiple features into a single platform without compromising user experience is a significant achievement. Additionally, the chatbot's ability to provide meaningful support and the positive feedback we've received from users about the app's design and functionality are accomplishments we take pride in.

What we learned

Throughout the development of Geneva, we learned a great deal about managing and integrating various APIs, optimizing performance in a feature-rich app, and the importance of user experience design. We also gained insights into the specific needs of students when it comes to self-care, which helped us tailor the app's features accordingly.

What's next for Geneva

The next steps for Geneva include expanding the chatbot's capabilities with more personalized recommendations and support, integrating more activities to cater to a wider range of interests, and enhancing the exercise planner with more detailed tracking and goal-setting features. We also plan to gather user feedback to continuously improve the app and explore partnerships with health and wellness organizations to provide even more valuable resources for our users.
