Inspiration 💭
We wanted to create an effortless way for people to make a difference by rounding up everyday purchases into micro-donations for charities they care about.
What it does ⭐️
Generous Rounds rounds up users' purchases to the nearest dollar and donates the spare change to recommended charities based on their interests.
How we built it 🛠️
We used Flask for the backend, MongoDB for transaction storage, and integrated AI to recommend charities. The front end was also built with flask.
Challenges we ran into 🧱
We struggled to find a working API for charity data within the time constraints, which slowed down the development of our AI-based recommendations. This led us to create our own temporary API-like databases.
Accomplishments that we're proud of 🏆
Successfully building a working app that automates micro-donations and integrates AI to match users with relevant causes.
What we learned 🧠
Our whole team gained hands-on experience with Flask for backend development, MongoDB for data management, and OpenAI for integrating AI-driven features. It was a valuable learning experience for all of us.
What's Next for Generous Rounds 🎉🎉
We plan on connecting to third-party APIs to help track real-time transactions, have an up-to-date database of charities, and fix minor styling issues in our APP.
