Inspiration

Social media is increasingly carousel-first — especially on platforms like Instagram, LinkedIn, and Threads. These multi-slide posts are highly engaging, informative, and ideal for storytelling. However, creating a professional-looking carousel from scratch is time-consuming and requires both design and copywriting skills. We were inspired by the need to bridge the gap between raw ideas and polished visual content. Marketers, creators, and educators often have valuable insights but struggle with translating them into design. The Generative Social Carousel Creator was born to solve this — by combining AI-driven summarization and storytelling with beautiful, editable Adobe Express templates. We drew inspiration from tools like Canva, Swipe Files, and Twitter threads, but wanted to build a fully integrated creative flow — one that starts from a single idea or link and ends with a scroll-stopping carousel, ready to post. This tool empowers anyone to communicate visually, quickly, and confidently.

What it does

The Generative Social Carousel Creator is an Adobe Express Add-on that transforms a topic, article URL, or raw text into a beautifully designed, editable carousel post. It uses AI to break down the input into multiple slides, optimizing each for attention, clarity, and flow. The tool generates:

A hook (slide 1) Key ideas across several slides Visual CTAs (calls to action) Branded design layout suggestions All of this is presented in Adobe Express, ready for users to customize. With one click, users can: Insert the entire carousel into their workspace Apply their brand kit (colors/fonts) Export for Instagram, LinkedIn, etc. It eliminates the need to manually summarize, write, and layout content. Whether you're promoting a blog post, sharing expert tips, or explaining a concept, the tool gets you 80% of the way there — instantly.

Problem Statement Creating engaging, high-performing social carousels is hard and time-intensive. Most creators, marketers, and educators struggle with:

Structuring their content visually

Writing compelling slide copy

Designing each slide to fit brand and platform requirements

Maintaining consistency across slides

Traditional design tools require users to:

Think like a copywriter

Work like a designer

Format for multiple platforms

This leads to creative burnout, repetitive tasks, and lost momentum. Even seasoned pros spend hours manually designing carousels. Beginners either avoid them or produce subpar results. There’s currently no unified solution that takes a blog post or raw idea and automatically turns it into a ready-to-edit carousel — inside a trusted design platform. That’s the gap the Generative Social Carousel Creator fills.

How we built it

not yet it is just an idea, to but to build it To build the Generative Social Carousel Creator as an Adobe Express Add-on, you’ll need to combine: Adobe Express SDK (to interact with the Express editor) A front-end interface (for users to input URLs or topics) A backend AI service (to generate carousel content) A rendering engine (to create carousel slides in the canvas) STEP-BY-STEP: How to Build It

  1. Set Up Your Dev Environment 🛠 Requirements: Node.js Hosting (Vercel, Netlify, or Firebase for frontend/backend) Adobe Developer Console access (for registering add-on) Access to OpenAI API (or any text-generation AI) Adobe Express SDK (Beta)
  2. Create the Add-on UI Panel Your UI is a web app rendered in an iframe inside Adobe Express. Technologies: HTML, CSS (Adobe Spectrum UI recommended) JavaScript or React/Vue Host on a secure domain (https) UI Components: Adobe express ui component

Challenges we ran into

Content segmentation: Breaking down long-form content into short, slide-friendly sentences was harder than expected. We had to fine-tune how GPT summarizes and formats slide titles versus body copy. Maintaining tone: Ensuring the AI output matched the user's intended tone (e.g., playful, professional, bold) required prompt engineering and preset styles. Slide layout limitations: Mapping generated content to Express canvas slides without breaking design harmony took work — especially with varying content lengths. Rendering previews: Creating live previews inside a compact panel while keeping it lightweight and scrollable took careful UI decisions. Brand kit adaptation: Applying fonts and colors dynamically across all slides while keeping visual balance added complexity.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we delivered an end-to-end working prototype that:

Converts long content into clean, AI-curated slide sections

Auto-fills design layouts with actual engagement-optimized content Allows full customization within Adobe Express Integrates seamlessly with Express workflows Makes carousel creation accessible for all skill levels Our add-on gives users a massive head start on content creation, reducing hours of effort to minutes. We didn’t just build a demo — we created a real-time tool that’s design-savvy, smart, and production-ready. Another proud moment: watching non-designers use it and say, “This looks like something a creative agency would make.” It validated that our tool democratizes carousel content creation and brings pro-quality design to everyone.

What we learned

We learned that content-to-visual workflows are the future — and users want tools that think with them, not just for them. Some key takeaways: People value automation with room for creative control AI-generated content needs structure, not just paragraphs Design tools become exponentially more powerful when they include context-aware assistants The Adobe Express SDK opens huge possibilities for plug-and-play creativity Simplicity is hard to design — but crucial for adoption We also gained experience in managing front-end UI with AI logic and integrating real-time outputs into a visual editor. Lastly, we saw firsthand how much creators love tools that cut friction and boost confidence.

What's next for Generative Social Carousel Creator

We’re just getting started. Next steps:

Tone & Voice Selector: Let users pick “fun,” “corporate,” “inspirational,” etc. — and style the carousel accordingly.

Multi-format Support: Export as Reels, Stories, LinkedIn carousels, or Pinterest pins.

Content Scheduler: Queue and schedule carousels for auto-publishing (integrate with Buffer or Hootsuite).

Analytics Feedback Loop: Show users which slide types perform best across platforms and suggest improvements.

Collaborative Mode: Let teams co-edit or review carousels before posting.

Use AI to analyze existing posts and repackage them as carousels.

We also want to publish a carousel template library users can remix instantly. Our ultimate goal is to become the go-to tool for visual storytelling across all platforms.
