Inspiration
In our complex modern society, we understand that emotions are a vital part of being human, and there's no such thing as a "wrong" emotion. We believe in embracing the full spectrum of feelings, from joy and excitement to fear and sadness. Our platform recognizes that sometimes you might experience two conflicting emotions at once, leaving you unsure of how to cope. Instead of suppressing or ignoring these feelings, we celebrate their complexity and offer an uplifting solution.
Welcome to our Kind Message Generator, where you can receive heartwarming messages tailored to your unique mix of emotions, helping you find comfort and positivity no matter how you feel.
What it does
Our Kind Message Generator takes two of your current emotions, no matter how conflicting, and outputs a kind and motivating message, in our modern-designed website.
How we built it
We worked together both offline and on-call to collaborate on the website. Our team, consisting only of college students, is supportive and welcoming of all skill levels, and we delegated tasks based on people's strong suits. For the prompts, we used generative AI to help us come up with the kind messages.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was the lack of time. We are all based on PST and worked full-time on Friday, so we really only got started on Saturday. By Saturday night all important components to the website were ready to be presented, but if we had more time, we could've refined and added more features.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
It was the first hackathon for a some of us and we're all proud of how we managed to challenge our skillset as a programmer. The experienced members had a fun time helping less experienced members get started, and those less experienced members had a really great time exploring and learning new coding skills. (I, the writer, was able to try out some new project libraries. I've never used data science libraries in React and I found a creative way to use the pie chart in our website, inspired by the "feelings wheel". Despite writing this at 3:30am, I would do this hackathon again if I were given the choice. It was a fun and educational experience for all, and we are quite satisfied with the work we put out.)
What we learned
Lots and lots of React skills. For some of us, it was the first time using React so rigorously and every line of code written by the other team members were a valuable reference and learning opportunity.
What's next for Generate a Kind Message
With more time, we can envision the website using a chatbot API, or it's own ML model to generate a unique message every time.
