Inspiration for Genealogy.Social
Invite Collaboration
Genealogy research is a collaborative process, even if a person THINKS they are alone. The family tree is by its very nature a crowed source project. Sometimes the only communication between people working on the same ancestor is the actual merge, delete or change. There is much that can be done to bring and invite collaboration.
Improve Quality
Sometimes the most important thing that can be done is to get some advice or give some advice. Genealogy.Socal will better allow experts to communicate with a novice. As a novice genealogist your greatest asset is your mentor, on Genealogy.Social, there will always be someone visit, ask questions and get answers that are relevant and timely you the user.
Share experiences
We want to share are JOY! Visit with people who share our goals and interests. Comminutes will develop and families will come closer and develop an understanding as a group. The “Genealogist” in the family will be able to share, teach and show off.
What it does
Social Media for the genealogist, community builder, and platform that puts conversations in context. We anyone want to talk about Great Uncle John, everyone will know who and what is being discussed. Small work groups and larger information groups can be built around one ancestor or a group of ancestors.
How I built it
We are using some cloud services and off the shelf APIs.
Challenges I ran into
Expressing Family History concepts, practices and skills to developers who have never even heard of genealogy. There came a point when I just needed to bring the coding back and work on it myself. This will slow down the process, but will get an MVP up and running with the Genealogist in mind.
What I learned
Technology is great, but only if it can be used to improve the family trees being researched. It is not the tools but the people who make the difference.
