Inspiration:

I was once a biology student, and during class I noticed that in order to make the students engage and actively learn, the professor rewarded students that answers his questions in class with candy. It felt weird working out of class and not receiving a candy. Because of this tactic, students began to study a lot more and participate a lot more in class. That feeling of getting rewarded for your effort solved a problem students face in biology, and that is too many information, which decreases ones attention span, lack of knowledge and failure in exam.

What it does:

what Gene-ID does is simple, students answer biological quizzes, solve real life medical cases, and perform biology activities as the would in class, but for a reward. So basically, they get rewarded for studying. Instructors on the other hand sees the performance of the student and grades them from the Gene-ID platform.

How we built it

I use HTML, CSS, JavaScript, python, and Google Gemini.

Challenges we ran into

The challenges I ran into is funding and promotion. no one is willing to help me drive the social media, and content creation aspect of Gene-ID because there were no funds.

Accomplishments that we're proud of:

I established a foothold in Morgan state university, with 4 biology classes in use of the product and 2 instructors handling 2 classes. Outside of morgan state university, I had over 200+ users and 13,000+ usage in the month of October.

What we learned:

I learnt is important to put yourself out there. Although I built the platform, reaching out to your targeted audience is the key.

What's next for Gene-ID:

With proper funding, I should be able to pay individuals that are willing to drive this effort by promoting the platform via social media. Also, I will allocate funds to the platform, because I need funds to keep the platform running and host more users.
