Inspiration
The United Nations published a dossier about how to be more gender inclusive when speaking.
What it does
We built this program to help educate students of any age about gender inclusive language, and how they can modify day-to-day language for a more inclusive world.
How we built it
For the frontend we used React and Node.js to deploy. We used the C++ language to write backend, and used Typescript when we tried to handle communication between front and backend.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into many challenges regarding the Restful API and Casablanca framework, it did not properly communicate between our C++ code and Typescript code.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Getting our site to deploy, and creating drag and drop elements.
What we learned
We learned a lot about c++, typescript, and how to work as a team. We learned a lot about how connecting backend and frontend works. Though we couldn't connect our c++ and typescript code, it was still a valuable learning experience.
What's next for Gender Inclusive Language Example
We plan on expanding this site at a later point in many ways. We could add many other example sentences to better educate and train users in gender inclusive language. We could add features to the site to allow validation on the sentences, and allow removing specific drag/drop parts. We could even add an editor to be used by teachers to create their own lessons on the site.
