Inspiration
As undergraduate students attending an all-women college, acknowledging the educational inequalities between genders was crucial for us. We are fortunate to receive an education, and we aimed to employ this project to examine statistical data that highlights the differences between genders. Our goal is to acknowledge the challenges women encounter and provide relevant opportunities and information.
What it does
Our website provides information on various topics through different tabs. The homepage serves as an introduction to our topic, while the tabs provide in-depth information on specific aspects. The statistics tab offers an analysis of data related to gender education inequality. The resources tab provides access to scholarships for women and girls, organizations to learn from and donate to, and programs for women to join.
How we built it
Our website was built using Glitch, with a combination of HTML and CSS. We also incorporated Flourish, an interactive data visualization tool, to effectively present and explain the data.
Challenges we ran into
As beginners participating in our first hackathon, we encountered difficulties in constructing a website and presenting data in an effective and concise manner.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of our informative website which provides a vast array of resources for women to utilize. Additionally, we are proud of our data tool, which compares literacy rates between genders across various regions of the world over the course of roughly 50 years. Above all, we are proud to collaborate and learn from one another, with each member making a valuable contribution to the project.
What we learned
Through this project, we gained knowledge on developing a website with multiple tabs and using data visualization tools to display information effectively.
What's next for Gender Disparities in Education
Moving forward, we aim to encourage more individuals to utilize data to combat the challenges surrounding gender disparities in education. We strive to raise greater awareness about these issues and promote change. We believe that anyone, regardless of their field, can leverage their expertise to advocate for and support women.
