Inspiration

In India, millions of students graduate every year but remain unsure about their career paths. Traditional counseling is expensive, limited to cities, and often outdated. We aimed to create an AI mentor that can guide every student and job seeker, whether in a city or a small village, toward the right career opportunities.

What it does

JobAI – AI Career Mentor helps students and job seekers by: Analyzing their skills, grades, and interests. Recommending personalized career paths. Suggesting government training programs (Skill India, PMKVY, etc.). Creating personalized resumes. Generating mock interview questions and feedback. Supporting regional Indian languages for inclusivity.

How we built it

Frontend: React and a simple chatbot UI. Backend: Python using FastAPI and Flask. GenAI Models: IBM Watsonx and OpenAI APIs for NLP and recommendations. Database: MongoDB for storing user profiles and recommendations. Integration: Government portals and open job datasets. Deployment: IBM Cloud for scalability.

Challenges we ran into

Mapping real government programs to relevant career paths. Handling multilingual queries from students. Creating resumes that pass ATS systems used by recruiters. Time constraints for building resume, interview, and career path modules.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built an end-to-end GenAI career mentor in just one hackathon. Successfully generated personalized resumes and mock interview sets. Added regional language support for accessibility. Created a solution that could genuinely assist millions of students in India.

What we learned

How to use GenAI in a socially impactful way. The importance of designing for accessibility, including local languages and mobile-first approaches. How to integrate AI and government resources to create significant impact.

What's next for JOB AI

Launching a WhatsApp bot version so rural students can access it easily. Adding video mock interviews with AI-based feedback. Expanding the training database with industry mentors and MOOCs. Partnering with colleges and NGOs to bring AI career counseling to every corner of India.
