Inspiration

Designers often struggle with finding the perfect color palette that fits a specific mood, style, or concept. Many existing tools either overwhelm with too many options or fail to understand creative intent. We wanted to create something intelligent, fast, and aesthetically aware — a tool where AI understands your imagination and transforms it into beautiful, usable color palettes.

What it does

PaletteCraft is an AI-powered tool that lets users generate color palettes simply by describing the mood, theme, or concept. Just type in something like “calm beach evening” or “futuristic neon city,” and PaletteCraft instantly delivers curated palettes each with a name, color swatches, and hex codes ready to use in any design.

How we built it

PaletteCraft uses the Gemini 2.5 AI model to understand what kind of feeling or theme the user wants. It then creates color palettes using color psychology and design rules.

  • We built a smart system that:
  • Understands the mood and purpose from your text
  • Picks matching color groups
  • Gives a ready-to-use palette with hex codes and labels

We made the first version as a simple Adobe Express add-on using their SDK. The design is clean, fast, and built in a way that we can easily add more features later.

Challenges we ran into

  • Creative vs. Practical Colors AI can generate stunning palettes, but not all of them work well in real-world design. We had to refine our logic to keep results both artistic and usable.

  • Messy User Prompts People describe ideas in all kinds of vague or quirky ways. Making sense of this and turning it into consistent color output required smart prompt handling and a lot of tweaking.

  • Feeling-to-Color Conversion Turning moods like “calm but edgy” into structured, web-safe color palettes wasn’t easy. It took several rounds of experimentation to get the emotional tone right.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Created a tool that translates creativity into color
  • Made a complex design process feel fun and intuitive
  • Helped early testers use PaletteCraft in real design workflows for branding, UI mockups, and digital art
  • Built a smooth, zero-learning-curve UI in under a week

What we learned

Natural language input for design tools is incredibly powerful when paired with smart AI Simplicity in UI/UX is just as important as complexity under the hood Color theory and AI can work together beautifully when approached thoughtfully
