Inspiration

We are former colleagues in machine learning and hail from the Ad Tech World. In that dynamic environment, personalized ads and user experience were paramount. However, prioritizing the right features and metrics for optimization was always a challenge. We often found ourselves reading through heaps of user data, meeting notes, and emails, and spending countless hours writing JIRA tickets. The process was painstaking.

We discovered we weren't alone as we connected with more Product Manager friends in the industry. They, too, wanted an augmented process—one that would free up their time for ideating the next big thing. And thus, Gen, our Product Manager Assistant, was born!

What it does?

Gen, an AI agent assists product managers in augmenting collecting, triaging, and prioritizing user feedback from various channels and automatically generates JIRA tickets with clear acceptance criteria, priority levels, and due dates.

How did we build it?

We built our solution using Gemini, which integrates with Jira, the Google Docs API, and the Google Speech-to-Text API. Within Gemini, we leveraged various LLM workflows, including chat prompts, function calling, and RAG.

Challenges we ran into

Working with function calling in Gemini presented a learning curve, as it’s a relatively new feature. We had to navigate documentation and tackle integration challenges with external APIs like Jira and Google. Additionally, ensuring responsible AI practices was another hurdle we addressed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully created Jira tickets with voice inputs, text blobs (from chat or email), and Google Docs—all powered by Gen. The exploration of Gemini’s function calling capabilities was both exciting and rewarding.

What we learned

Human-AI Collaboration: Product managers and Gen complement each other. We want product managers to be an important component of the feedback loop so they can readjust the priority of tickets and re-write or edit the acceptance criteria of tickets. We want to integrate a reinforcement learning agent so that Gen learns from the feedback and improves.

What's next for Gen

As we gear up for launch, capturing the interest of Product Managers (PMs) is crucial. Beyond the initial release, we’re excited about several additional features that will elevate our platform:

  • Technical JIRA Tickets: We’re empowering PMs to dive into technical implementation details. By creating JIRA tickets with precise technical information, we bridge the gap between product vision and execution.
  • Augmented Product Requirement Documents: For larger feature requests, Gen will augment the process of writing product requirement documents.
  • Prioritization Dashboard: Imagine a centralized dashboard where all tickets are neatly prioritized. But it doesn’t stop there—our system provides transparency by explaining how each ticket earned its place in the queue.
  • Expanded Integrations: We’re not stopping at JIRA. Our roadmap includes seamless integration with other external tools and platforms, such as HubSpot. This ensures a holistic experience for PMs.
  • Industry-Wide Adoption: Beyond PMs, we’re extending our augmenting features to other industry players—Sales, Marketing, Auditors, and more. Everyone deserves a productivity boost!
