Gemphish - Web Safety AI Companion 🛡️
🌟 Inspired by the rise of AI capabilities, I created Gemphish - a Chrome extension to make web safety accessible to everyone. I designed it to provide real-time webpage analysis through an intuitive sidebar interface, evaluating factors like domain age, content patterns, and security practices to deliver a clear Low, Medium, or High risk rating.
🔧 I built this extension with simplicity and performance in mind, using vanilla HTML/CSS for the interface, JavaScript (ES6) for functionality, Chrome Extension Manifest V3, and Google Gemini AI for analysis.
🧩 For the core features, I implemented a Domain Analysis System that verifies website authenticity through RDAP lookups for common TLDs, while automatically trusting .edu and .gov domains. I created a Content Extraction system that intelligently targets main article content across various page structures, analyzing external links and calculating safety ratios.
🤖 I integrated Gemini's AI capabilities for advanced pattern recognition and multi-factor risk assessment. My goal was to provide detailed yet understandable explanations of potential threats that anyone can understand.
💪 Throughout development, I faced several interesting challenges, from structuring AI responses to ensuring reliable content extraction across different website layouts. I maintained my focus on balancing thorough analysis with optimal performance.
📊 I designed the analysis framework to examine domain registration patterns, pressure tactics, external link ratios, security practices, and design consistency. This comprehensive approach helps users make informed decisions about website safety.
🚀 My immediate plans include launching on the Chrome Web Store with a pre-configured API key for instant usage. My future enhancements will include:
