Inspiration: When we were in school and feeling overwhelmed with our emotions, we looked for online resources, yet felt crushed by the amount of contradicting advice we were getting. There were so many options, from Instagram telling us to simply breathe to WebMD telling us we had undiagnosed brain cancer. This left us scared and with nothing to help us. We always wished there was an app that would help with intense emotions. Specifically, in the moment, when you are having these feelings. What it does: Our app allows someone who is experiencing severe emotions to immediately find resources to help them. Whether they need warm-lines, (lines designed to be contacted before the point of crisis), hotlines, breathing exercises, or suggestions, they can easily find them in our app. Additionally, Gelos can be used to track one's mood, find therapists, or discreetly message mental health professionals. How we built it: After doing research, we combined resources into one app. We created a demo of this app on Figma to visualize how the app works. Once on the home page, the user is given five options (I am sad, I am anxious, I am mad, I want to talk, I need to talk) depending on the user's emotions they can click onto the resources they need at that moment. Challenges we ran into: Originally, we did not know how to create a satisfactory demo, so we began to google and watch tutorials on how to use Figma to best demonstrate our product idea. Accomplishments we are proud of: We are proud of the final app design and all of the changes and upgrades it has had already. What we learned: We learned how to use Figma and create a business pitch. What's next for Gelos: We would like to explore getting a professional in the field of mental health to help create more original content for the app including meditation and cognitive exercises. In addition, we want to add more features such as a resources for finding group therapy in a user's area.
