Inspiration
After volunteering at Sage Brook Retirement Center, several times, we realized a burden that Senior citizens face when dealing with the facilitation of their mediation. This burden being the retrieval of their prescription from various hospitals and pharmacies, as they are either unable to pick up the medication themselves, or do not have anyone to rely on. So, we decided to bridge this gap by linking medical professions, such as doctors or nurses, to individuals in need of medication carrier service, completely bypassing any insurance intermediary.
What it does
Our app connects medical professionals with customers who have submitted a request for delivery for a certain date. The request may also be sent via guardian who might live far away. From here, the medical professional may scroll through the possible jobs and choose one based off different factors, which include pricing, distance, and times. Through these means, we provide an affordable path for individuals to receive medication, and a source of jobs for desiring medical professionals.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into several challenges. The main challenge was retrieving data from the external database, while also maintaining a secure handshake to prevent accidental data breaches. Also, configuring API’s too fit this specific niche posed to be challenge that consumed much of our time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are all proud of the application that we have developed over this last weekend. We believe it offers true practicality of service to those in need, while also preserving safety and reliability by only accepting medically licensed professionals. The application, as it stands today, needs additional work but it is something that the team is excited to endeavor upon.
What we learned
We learned the significant value of managing source control within a team environment, attempting to create an efficient flow of production. We believe this to be a vital skill, especially in a professional work environment. Aside from this, re-learning libraries like node.js was extremely satisfying because of the progress we made as a team.
What's next for FetchRx
What’s next? First off, sleep for sure. But in actuality, we want to expand this idea for more types of jobs that medical professionals can partake in. We see a huge market for this, as many medically licensed individuals yearn for income opportunities. Covid was a great indication of this, as many professionals began jobs like telemedicine to provide service to those in need.
