Inspiration

Seeing the daily struggles of people around me—especially my grandmother, who lived with hemiplegia—first opened my eyes to these challenges. Witnessing her journey pushed me to think deeply about those facing even more severe limitations and how technology could restore a sense of independence to their lives.

What it does

The application is designed specifically for individuals with quadriplegia. By tracking eye movements—whether looking up, down, or in specific directions—the system translates these subtle glances into direct commands. These actionable alerts are immediately transmitted to family members or caregivers, giving users a reliable voice when they need it most.

How we built it

We developed and prototyped the application using Replit, leveraging its collaborative environment to write code, test the logic, and bring the core feature set to life efficiently.

Challenges we ran into

Translating such a complex concept into a functional prototype posed significant technical and practical hurdles. Designing a smooth interface that accurately interprets subtle visual cues required constant refinement and problem-solving.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are deeply proud to have taken concrete action toward helping people like my grandmother and those in even more vulnerable situations. Knowing that this solution gives individuals with severe mobility constraints a way to express their needs and connect with loved ones is our greatest reward.

What we learned

This journey taught us the true power of teamwork, critical thinking, and deep analytical problem-solving. Beyond the technical skills, we learned how to approach complex problems with empathy and turn a compassionate idea into a practical solution

What's next for gaze

Our vision is to see this tool in the hands of individuals living with quadriplegia everywhere—offering them a seamless, intuitive experience that restores independence and minimizes their daily struggles. Moving forward, we aim to refine the tracking accuracy, expand device compatibility, and partner with healthcare networks to ensure it reaches the patients who need it most, empowering them to communicate with complete confidence and ease.

An assistive app designed for individuals with quadriplegia to communicate using only their eye movements. By tracking subtle visual cues—like looking up or down—the app instantly translates those movements into specific requests and sends direct alerts to family members or caregivers. It gives non-verbal users a fast, simple, and reliable way to express their needs with confidence.
