🌍 Inspiration
In Central African countries like Equatorial Guinea, access to reliable healthcare information, local pharmacies, and medical donations is often fragmented or nonexistent. Inspired by real community needs, we created GAVUNO, a digital health hub designed to connect people in vulnerable regions to vital services: medical help, donations, trusted information, and AI-powered assistance.
Our vision: to build a compassionate, multilingual, and smart health platform for Africa, starting with Equatorial Guinea.
💡 What it does
GAVUNO is a health-first community platform that allows users to:
- ✅ Request or donate medical materials.
- ✅ Use Gavubot, an AI assistant that listens to symptoms and gives basic orientation.
- ✅ Locate nearby pharmacies with real-time geolocation support.
- ✅ Estimate and Scan prescriptions (OCR feature planned).
- ✅ Access multilingual content and onboarding using ElevenLabs and Lingo.
- ✅ Subscribe to premium tiers for enhanced features like unlimited AI access or OCR scanning.
All while maintaining trust and transparency with blockchain-backed pharmacy verification via Algorand.
🛠️ How we built it
We used Bolt.new for rapid UI prototyping and deployed the project with:
- Supabase: for authentication and real-time data.
- RevenueCat: for monetization with 3 subscription tiers.
- Dappier: for integrating Gavubot (AI-powered health chatbot).
- ElevenLabs: for multilingual onboarding audio with pro voice quality.
- Lingo.dev: to prepare the app for 3+ languages.
- Algorand via Nodely: to verify pharmacies and store their certification data securely.
🚧 Challenges we ran into
- Bolt limitations for complex conditional flows.
- Time constraints to integrate all features, especially OCR and offline mode.
- Managing multilingual UX within a single prototype session.
- Avoiding misinformation in an AI assistant designed for health support.
- Aligning monetization logic with RevenueCat while respecting health access equity.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a working prototype on a global hackathon stage within limited Bolt credits.
- Designed an intuitive, responsive UI with a strong health-first visual identity.
- Integrated AI and blockchain to solve real regional challenges.
- Created a non-intrusive monetization model focused on value, not restrictions.
- Verified 11 real pharmacies and laid groundwork for future blockchain use.
📚 What we learned
- How to use multiple sponsor tools (RevenueCat, ElevenLabs, Algorand, Dappier, Supabase) under pressure.
- The power of simplicity in UX when dealing with healthcare.
- Challenges of offering AI-based assistance in low-data environments.
- The Importance of Accessibility and Multilingual Support in African Healthtech.
- How can modern technologies be bridged with real-world, grassroots needs?
- Implement real-time supervision using Sentry.
🚀 What's next for GAVUNO
- 🧠 Launch full OCR scanning feature for prescriptions (premium tier).
- 🌐 Fully implement Lingo-based translations across the app.
- 🔒 Improve data protection and add patient consent logic.
- 📦 Integrate real-time pharmacy inventory management.
- 📲 Prepare the mobile app version using Expo for Android/iOS.
- 🤝 Partner with health NGOs to validate real-world deployments.
- 🤝 Tavus integration for better interaction with the platform. -Launch full mobile App for Android and IOS.
GAVUNO is not just an app. It's a bridge to health, dignity, and trust — built in Africa, for Africa.
