Inspiration
Every health app that we have tried has suffered from at least one of the following problems: predatory advertising, difficulty of use, and narrow scope. There are diet trackers out there and plenty of exercise trackers, but we have yet to find an app that provides a full fitness suite to users for free.
What it does
GatorFit provides workout plans and general diet suggestions based on the user's current vitals and fitness goals.
How we built it
Our app was created with Figma and Flutter. Our server leverages Express.js, Node.js, and PostgreSQL. We used Android Studio to create a proof-of-concept Android app.
Challenges we ran into
The conversion from Figma hi-fi designs to Dart code was inexact and fraught with formatting issues. Additionally, every member of our team was tasked with learning a completely new techstack. For example, Gabriel our backend developer, had never created a public API. Timothy and Brandon, our app developers, had never touched frontend before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We created a Flutter project which has the potential to be ported to nearly every major computing platform, not just Android mobile. We are also excited at the prospect of a general-purpose fitness application; something we could all benefit from using.
What we learned
We learned how to make a versatile cross-platform app with Flutter.
What's next for GatorFit
Next up is iOS, Windows, Linux, and web applications! Our goal is to get the app into a state where we could use it personally for our fitness tracking needs.
