Inspiration
We wanted to create a space where women at UF can easily access reliable health information and campus resources. Our goal is to break stigmas, encourage open conversations, and empower women to take charge of their well-being. Recently, access to women’s health resources and awareness has diminished, leaving many feeling uncertain and unsupported. We want college students to know that they are not alone—there are still ways to feel safe, empowered, and informed. Our website is designed to bring women together, creating a community where they can support one another
What it does
Our goal was to provide everything a woman at UF might need. While we couldn’t include everything in our initial launch, we focused on the most important aspects. The first thing we made sure to include was a page in which women can access any safety and mental health resources in one place. We know this is crucial and we again want to create a safe space for women to be able to ask for help when they need it. We also felt it was important to provide educational content about women's bodies—things many may not have learned before. No women should be left in the dark regarding their body and we aim to work towards that. Leading off of this notion, in the future, we plan to add a blog section where UF women can anonymously post and discuss health-related questions, creating a safe, supportive discussion board. No one should feel embarrassed or uncertain about any aspect of womanhood. Additionally, we have provided easily accessible news outlets for news pertaining to women, so our users can stay updated on the laws that will effect them.
How we built it
We built this website using HTML, ensuring a simple yet functional design to best serve our community.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was working with the visual aspects of the website, such as spacing and centering text. Through patience and learning, we were able to overcome these issues and improve our design.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Not only was this our first hackathon, but it was also our first time building a website! We’re incredibly proud to have created something we’re passionate about. We truly believe this platform has the potential to grow into a valuable resource for women at UF, and that makes us extremely proud.
What we learned
We learned the importance of patience in coding—one small mistake can cause major issues. We also discovered that we are capable of building a functional website from scratch, which was an exciting realization!
What's next for Gator Girls' Guide
We have big plans ahead! As mentioned above, we want to create a discussion board where women can ask and answer questions anonymously. Additionally, we hope to integrate AI-powered features that allow users to get instant answers to their health-related questions. Our goal is to continue expanding this platform, adding as many valuable resources as possible to support and empower women at UF.
