Inspiration

Being an undergraduate in a public university in Western part of Africa is very challenging academically due to lack of resources and vital equipment for learning. As much as these challenges could be, I found a very threatening but neglected challenge facing the transportation system of students staying off-campus. I'm also a victim of this challenge which is why I built "Gather" to eradicate this menace challenge facing the transportation system in the whole of West Africa public university.

What it does

Gather, as the name implies make it possible for students to be able come together in a particular place for the main purpose of being transported to the school campus. Students in public university has to walk a very long distance from home in order to be able to get a public ride to school campus which is a very alarming challenge.

Gather helps both the students and drivers to save time, energy, resources by making sure that drivers leave their bus stop in school and meets gathered students in a reserved junctions relative to the distance nearer to the students individual hostel.

Most drivers has the capacity to convey 12 students then will leave the campus bus stop to transport students to school only to get to the junction meeting only 3 students and having to wait for other students to come so the vehicle can be full so they can make their full profits. This also on the students part makes it difficult to run emergencies in school due to the delay that will be encountered while waiting for other students.

Here's where Gather comes in, making it possible where both the students and drivers will meet an agreement before drivers leave the school bus stop and making it possible to be conveyed to the campus with ease. This saves both the time and resources of the both parties. I made this free whereby there wouldn't be any reason to increase the fee for each transportation cost.

How we built it

Gather was built with; Frontend: HTML, CSS, REACT JS, GIT, Backend: nodejs, firebase

Challenges we ran into

We faced an issue to have all the required document and contact of the drivers available in the school so we don't mess things up. We also faced a challenge for the security of the students to restrict just any driver just showing up and transporting students for other personal reasons.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we can bring up and implement an idea like this that can solve a global issue facing the educational-transportation system of Federal Universities. Also, we are proud that because of Gather, the streets will be free and more tidy because they won't be unnecessary movements of vehicles
