Inspiration

We wanted to create an app to help people our age achieve financial literacy and noticed that the main issue was saving money. So, we created "Gacha Pets" to not only reward users with cute collectible characters that they can unlock but also save money while doing so. We also were inspired by games like Genshin Impact which lets users unlock new avatars by rolling or spending money, so we knew that people would want an app that holds long-term retention, while also enjoying the benefits of meeting their savings goals.

What it does

Gacha Pets lets users set monthly goals of what they want to save and each time they meet their goals, they can unlock new characters.

How we built it

We used Figma to create a prototype for our app.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into time management issues since there was a lot to do and we took a while to develop our idea. It was also a challenge to get everyone on the same page in terms of development methods.. some teammates were more results-oriented and wanted to focus on the solution for the problem, while others were more process-oriented, and wanted to take the development step-by-step.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

A lot of our teammates had a fascinating experience picking up new skills and shadowing others who had certain strengths in those skills. we were able to integrate new user research methods, statistical analysis, and human-centered design/aesthetics into a single project.

What we learned

This was the first time we conducted a case study, we learned about several different standard user research methods (affinity mapping, survey, and persona methods). We were able to gain insight into how product prototypes are developed through a thorough analysis of a general customer problem, exploration of different solutions and ideas, and navigating the challenges of creating a widely usable product. Collaboration was a significant factor in navigating the study, as we could bounce ideas off each other and hold each other accountable for the certain tasks we needed to do.

What's next for Gatcha Pets

It would be interesting to see the app further developed. As it is in such an early stage, there is always the opportunity for user testing and reiteration. We are excited to see what we can add or change to make this app more accessible to everyone!
