Inspiration
Both of us love multiplayer games, and love garlic. So why not combine one of the most popular browser games with our favorite vegetable (and puns!).
What it does
It's a fairly simple browser multiplayer game that supports mobile phones. Simply create a room with Create Room, invite your friends via the Copy Link feature or just give them your room ID. And have fun! We also support viewing of everyone's prompts and responses at the end of each round.
How we built it
The project was built in Vite, with React and TypeScript used in the front-end and Firebase in the backend.
Challenges we ran into
- React with TypeScript
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Making a multiplayer game actually work under 24 hours
- Somehow not sleeping
- Non magically debugging various synchronization-related bugs while pumped full of caffeine
What we learned
- The power of immutability and functional paradigms with respect to databases
- How (NOT) to make a multiplayer game
- How much coffee we can feasibly consume
What's next for Garlic Phone
Better UI, and more Garlic puns. New game modes! (Time-attack, Censor-bar mania)
