Inspiration

Indonesia is an archipelagic country rich in culture, race, ethnicities, and traditions—one of the most iconic being batik. Unfortunately, batik is often perceived as outdated and limited. In contrast, today’s fashion trends continue to evolve, and young people strive to look unique and fashionable. We want to answer this challenge by creating GarisNadi, an AI-powered application that keeps batik relevant and adaptable to the times, while introducing various batik patterns from across the Indonesian archipelago.

Our goals:

  1. Make batik not just a cultural heritage, but a medium of self-expression.
  2. Open access to batik exploration for anyone, anywhere.
  3. Enable everyone to create batik based on their own creativity.

What it Does

GarisNadi is an AI-based application that serves as a digital batik database for Indonesia—allowing users to recognize various batik motifs, design new unique patterns, and even print custom batik based on their own preferences.

How we built it

We built this application through several key stages:

  1. Batik Dataset Preparation: Collecting and training a dataset of Indonesian batik until we reached satisfactory accuracy.
  2. Model Training API: Training the AI model to perform both pattern classification and pattern generation.
  3. User Interface Design: Creating an interactive and user-friendly UI to ensure accessibility and engagement for all users.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the development process, we encountered several challenges—especially regarding data collection, API integration, and AI modeling. We started by searching for suitable batik datasets and continued to refine the model until it achieved good classification accuracy. Next, we coded the AI model to generate batik designs based on user prompts. On the UI/UX side, we spent time defining the visual theme and designing a layout that was both aesthetic and functional. Lastly, limited development time posed a challenge in testing and refining all the features thoroughly.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Despite all the obstacles, we never gave up on pursuing the idea we had envisioned. During the development process, we actively participated in mentoring sessions to gain deeper insights. We’re proud that we applied the advice we received thoughtfully and critically, balancing innovation with feasibility.

What we learned

Through Ghacks 6.0, we learned the importance of understanding AI and advanced programming more deeply. We also started exploring how to build an interactive 3D space, which—while not yet fully implemented—gave us valuable experience. More importantly, we shared many laughs and memorable moments as a team. This competition brought not only technical knowledge, but also meaningful insight and inspiration.

What's next for GarisNadi

We sincerely hope GarisNadi can reach the final stage and proudly bring home a certificate of achievement. We are excited to share and present our idea to the judges and fellow participants. We envision GarisNadi being implemented widely, creating a positive impact for Indonesia, and serving as a bridge between tradition and technology.
