Inspiration
Ever felt guilty about wasting prepaid meal exchanges from your meal plan? Imagine if you could easily sell your unused meal exchanges and put every dollar of your tuition to good use. Or, picture needing a quick, affordable meal delivered directly to you on campus—what if you could conveniently order food from a fellow student at a significantly lower cost?
What it does
MunchNU helps students reclaim the value of their unused meal exchanges. Students can sell and deliver these meal exchanges to other students on campus, providing affordable meals and earning extra cash in the process.
How we built it
Our app's frontend was developed using Swift and SwiftUI, ensuring an intuitive user experience. For the backend, we utilized Python Flask to handle server-side functionality. Additionally, we integrated OAuth to provide a secure login authentication process.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into some challenges when formulating an idea that was both impactful and feasible given the timeframe. We also met challenges while working with the login authentication with OAuth.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to have completed our first hackathon together. We are excited to have learned new skills, both technical and personal, through Wildhacks.
What we learned
We learned about the complexities of designing a food delivery application, including the costs associated, ensuring satisfaction for both the deliverer and the orderer, and including the details of the stores on campus. However, we also learned the importance of teamwork as we worked on this project together.
What's next for Munch NU
We aim to add delivery time limits and cost optimization, based on distance from the ordered. We would also like to improve our user interface for smoother use, for instance by adding images to the order screen.
Additionally, we feel MunchNU can be expanded to other universities! There are over 1000 universities spread across America which provide their students with meal swipes. Tens of thousands of students could benefit from this app and we can easily modify to cater to other unis (think MunchPurdue, MunchIllinois, MunchGT, MunchUT and much much more!!)
