Inspiration
Soil plays a huge role in supplying and producing our food, supporting the surrounding environment, and serving as the backbone for our daily achievements. As we interact daily with nature, we observed it was difficult to detect the cause of plant death, and realized unhealthy soil could be a key cause. As our families are so invested in our home gardens, we want to help them in figuring out why their plants aren't growing. These points served as our purpose to solving this issue, so let's figure out the how our soil contributes to this issue!
What it does
GardenGuardian is an app that analyzes soil and determines if the soil is healthy or not. It provides more knowledge, information and ways you can mend your soil to produce the most effective results, while working around your budget.
How we built it
We used Thunkable as our main software for the app, and used Canva to produce all our UI!
Challenges we ran into
1) Thunkable wasn't the best platform to create our app on, and we struggled a lot because we weren't very experienced in coding. 2) Since this project was so short-term, we couldn't gather perspectives from our target user group, but we worked around that issue by researching online!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
After all the bumps in our track, we problem-solved and worked our way to producing a beautiful, functioning app!
What we learned
As new coders, we ran into the loop of constant errors. We realized there's many ways we can solve problems and use alternatives to get the result we wanted through coding. We received lots of guidance and help from our mentors and problem-solved our way into producing a positive outcome! It took lots of patience and hard-work, but here we are with a great product and outcome!
What's next for GardenGuardian
1) We plan to add in a camera scan and uploading images feature! 2) We are working on adding in a sensor that inspects if there's pests or external chemicals added into the soil and providing solutions to solve that issue. 3) We are working towards inspecting soil, and detecting the perfect crop to grow, based on the type of soil and climate!
