Inspiration Two things I love collided. I'm hooked on grid-based logic puzzles — that satisfying click when a board finally solves. And I keep a real garden, where I'm in a constant, losing battle with critters that raid my plants and wreck the harvest before I can pick it. Gardener's Gambit turns that everyday frustration into a game: guide the gardener, outsmart the foxes, save the crop.

What it does A daily (+custom) grid-puzzle game that lives natively inside Reddit via Devvit. Every board is a 19×19 (min) garden — veggies to harvest, foxes to avoid, and a gardener to steer. Each daily puzzle is solver-verified, so there's always a guaranteed path to victory. Players can also build and publish their own levels for the community, giving the game a near-infinite runway beyond the daily challenge.

Challenges we ran into The biggest one nearly ended the project. I started from Devvit's Framer templates, which shipped with a redirection bug I couldn't work around. I reported it to the Devvit team and then waited — 1.5 to 2 weeks with no fix. That stall was genuinely demotivating; I went back to the drawing board and started sketching an entirely different idea to salvage the hackathon. Then the fix landed. I jumped back in, carried the momentum forward, and shipped the game I actually wanted to make. On top of that, learning Framer on the fly meant constant problem-solving throughout the build.

What we learned Framer was completely new to me, so a big part of this project was learning it from the ground up while building — layout, state, and wiring it into the Devvit runtime. I also went deep on puzzle-generation logic: designing maps that are both fair and solvable, and writing a solver to guarantee it.

What's next for Gardener's Gambit I want to add more options to expand the game beyond a square/rectangle grid and introduce more variations keeping the core game in tact!
