🌱 About the Project
My name is Godswill Iyke Dave. I’m an 18-year-old software developer and entrepreneur. I built Garden to solve the fundamental fragmentation in the student learning experience. It’s more than an app; it’s an all-in-one ecosystem designed to cultivate academic success and foster the next generation of leaders.
This fully-functional platform is ready for the market. The only thing standing between this solution and the millions of students who need it is the capital to handle the cost of scale—both for server infrastructure and for targeted inorganic marketing.
And to be clear—this wasn’t built in comfort. I had $0, almost no internet access, and my only laptop was barely holding on. At one point, I seriously considered selling the very phone I’m using to record this video just to keep the project alive. But Garden kept me going.

💡 What Inspired Me
Let me be completely honest.
I’m building the most powerful study app the world has ever seen.
Right now, as it stands, Garden is already the best study tool available anywhere for high school students—period. And I say that confidently. It combines the best parts of content, testing, AI tutoring, mentorship, social collaboration, and peer-to-peer learning. But even with everything I've built so far, this is still just the beginning.
I know what Garden can become with just two months of capital and targeted launch support.
This isn’t just an app. It’s a future African pride story—like Paystack, Andela, or Flutterwave. But this time, it’s in education. I’m 100% sure of it.
Right now, Garden has:
- ✅ Over 20,000 multiple-choice questions, tailored to more than 10 of the top high school curricula, including WAEC, Cambridge, and others.
- ✅ More than 100,000 lines of structured textbook data, across 16 subjects in science, arts, and commerce.
- ✅ A fully working mobile app built with React Native & Expo, with offline-first support, AI, social features, and more.
- ✅ A vision that’s just getting started.
All I need now is capital—to handle infrastructure costs and run laser-focused marketing. The product is ready. The impact is inevitable. The scale is what’s left.
This isn’t a dream. It’s already real. But with your help, it’s going to become unstoppable.
🌟 Feature Highlights
📚 The Garden Library
This isn't a PDF viewer; I've completely re-imagined the digital textbook. Each chapter is broken down into dynamic, multi-modal learning sections. Every section includes a curated YouTube video for visual learners, detailed text for deep reading, and a custom-built MCQ quiz with explanations to instantly test and solidify knowledge. It’s active, engaging learning—not passive reading.
🧪 Garden Tests (GT)
To truly measure progress, I engineered a powerful assessment platform with over 50,000 questions specifically targeting the WAEC & Cambridge curricula. I knew connectivity could be an issue, so I built it to work offline, ensuring preparation is never halted.
🧭 Explore & Connect: The Social Hub
This is my core vision. Garden is not just an app; it’s the social launchpad for the next generation of African leaders. I designed it to intelligently connect students with shared ambitions, enabling collaboration that goes far beyond the classroom.
💬 Mentorship-Driven Messaging
Chat must have a purpose. Students can DM each other, but the real power is connecting with teachers who have opted-in for mentorship. The app uses data from onboarding to suggest the perfect mentor for a student's specific academic needs.
🤖 Garden AI: The 24/7 Tutor
I integrated a powerful AI to be the ultimate academic support system. Are you stuck on a tough math problem? Snap a picture for a guided solution. Need an English essay reviewed? The AI can do it. It can even provide career path counseling.
👤 The "Why" Behind the Data
You noticed our detailed onboarding. Every piece of data we collect has a purpose: to tailor a hyper-personalized experience that matches each student's unique needs, from their learning style to their specific courses, and to power our community matching algorithms.
🛍️ The P2P Marketplace
I believe in creating a self-sustaining academic economy. This marketplace allows students and teachers to buy and sell valuable resources—like lecture notes and study guides—creating a loop of shared knowledge and value within the community.
🧠 What I Learned
Throughout this journey, I learned how to:
- Architect full-stack applications that scale, even on low-end devices.
- Implement offline-first learning with synced cloud backups.
- Design modular, multi-modal learning systems.
- Integrate AI meaningfully (not just as a gimmick).
- Manage large datasets (over 50,000+ test questions) and build dynamic filters with Firestore composite indexes.
- Animate React Native interfaces with Moti, Reanimated, and Expo GL transitions.
- Communicate purpose through design. Every screen in Garden means something.
🛠️ How I Built It
I’ve been coding for the past 3 years in other languages, but I only picked up JavaScript frameworks 3 months ago. That alone came with a steep learning curve. Still, I pushed through.
Here’s how I built Garden:
- Framework: React Native + Expo (EAS Build for deployment)
- Animation: Moti, Reanimated 3
- Database & Auth: Firebase (Firestore, Auth, Storage)
- Core Logic (Everything Else): Hand-built from scratch in TypeScript
- That includes the testing engine, quiz grading logic, onboarding system, mentor-matching algorithms, offline syncing, and P2P marketplace logic.
No templates, no tutorials—I wrote the actual business logic line by line. This app is a result of obsession, not convenience.
🚧 Challenges I Faced
Huge Content Burden: Getting over 100,000 lines of textbook data and more than 20,000 multiple-choice questions—tailored to over 10 national and international high school curricula—was the biggest challenge.
It took me nearly three straight weeks, working up to 20 hours a day, just to collect, clean, structure, and load all this content. It was frustrating, exhausting, and nearly broke me. But I got it done.Learning Curve: Coming from other languages, learning JavaScript frameworks like React Native and working with async data, render cycles, and navigation in Expo was a real challenge at first. But I stuck with it, built small pieces daily, and scaled up.
Firestore indexing pain: Firestore required composite indexes for dynamic filtering. I had to figure out how to preemptively log missing indexes and help myself avoid silent query failures.
Offline UX logic: Making quizzes and textbook navigation work offline—while syncing intelligently when back online—meant custom-building offline state handlers and local caching strategies.
UI animation scaling: Making the app feel beautiful across different phones, especially low-end ones, took careful optimization with Moti and layout tuning.
🚀 My 2-Month Plan After Funding
Once I secure funding, my 2-month roadmap is already planned:
🎥 AI-Generated Video Lessons
Every single section of Garden’s textbooks will have a rich, animated, AI-narrated video explaining the topic in depth—backed by visuals, diagrams, and examples. These will also be published on YouTube to increase visibility and reach.🌐 Launch the Garden Website
A powerful web version of Garden, allowing students to learn directly from the browser—fully synced with the app. All textbook content, tests, and quizzes will be available on the site. Built with SEO in mind to dominate search results for high school questions.🧑🏫 Teacher Contribution Portal
