Inspiration
We thought about how we sometimes didn't know which designated trash bin to dispose our trash in, so we used that problem to create a solution prototype. This leads to waste being disposed of in the wrong bins. We wanted to make a solution so that waste sorting would be easier. We came up with an app called Sortify that tells you where to throw your trash in, so we wouldn't need to be confused of what trash goes where. Users can check the nearest locations on where to throw their trash. Additionally, not enough people recycle and reuse things, so we wanted to help by adding recommendations for recycling and reusing trash at home.
What it does
Sortify allows you to take a photo or choose an image from your gallery and scans it using AI. Then it will identify what the trash it is and leads you to a page that tells you where to throw it in, as well as a few at-home recycling and reusing tips.
How we built it
We used Figma to make our app prototype.
Challenges we ran into
We didn't know how to operate Figma, so we were confused about many things. But after watching a youtube tutorial, we overcame our problem.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that we were able to work well together as a team. We shared our ideas, helped each other, and worked together to create our app prototype.
What we learned
We learned how to use Figma to create an app prototype and how important teamwork and communication are when working on a project. We also learned more about recycling, reusing, and how technology can help solve everyday environmental problems.
What's next for Sortify
We hope that we can further advance Sortify so that it can become a better app in the future.
