Inspiration

We took a lot of inspiration from a not yet published ICLR 2026 academic paper concerned with GAR - link- green aware routing and we decided to make theoretical solution technically possible.

What it does

We build Routeway, enterprise platform for AI systems, that automatically:

  • chooses the smallest model that fits your task (so you don’t overpay)
  • route to the fastest, lowest-carbon datacenter within your rules
  • track reporting required for ESG compliance and the best part - you don't have to set up anything!

How we built it

We started with the goal of making algorithm from the paper extendable to real time data and all our constraints that we want to take into account. After numerous consultations with Crusoe and potential customers we decided to opt for enterprise as our end customer, where we focus on cost and emission optimization together with compliance support.

Challenges we ran into

Obtaining and using complex real time data and addressing one of the most painful specific business use cases for our potential solution were probably the biggest challenges. Due to the computational intensity of obtaining estamations and limited time, we used the model benchmarks from the paper. Rest of data, mainly the electricity and CO2 intensity are obtained in real time. During our sprint, we ran into numerous technical complications, but we managed to overcome them in the end.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have managed to come up with a complex enterprise web platform, that actually loads data from uploaded company documents, connects them with real time grid data and selects optimal models (and data centers) to be used. Based on our calculations this can bring around 70% emissions reduction, while preserving latency and accuracy of models. We built a theoretical concept into real platform that actually addresses a major business case for Europe's biggest companies. We brought a novel proposed workflow to life.

What we learned

The market and end customers impacted our solution the most. Our specific type of customer - enterprises - require a thoroughly thought-through business case that reflects their needs. We learned how to work with many new libraries and technologies along the way. These were required for our goal and pushed the limits of our coding agents to maximum.

What's next for Routeway

We want to pursue our connection with Crusoe and potentially other data center cloud services providers to asses our proof of concept and make it into real product with huge impact.
